Hello

My story starts with my very own A-Level Biology in which I achieved a grade A.  I went on to study at University College London (UCL) and gained a 2:1 BSc(Hons) in Human Genetics. After graduating, I spent time working as a research assistant in the UCL Genetics Department, followed by a position as an assistant forensic scientist for the Forensic Science Service in Birmingham. 

I had a yearning to go back and learn, so I returned to studying at the University of Leicester where I obtained a PhD in Genetics, resulting in a first author publication (Bennett CS, Khorram Khorshid HR, Kitchen JA, Arteta D, Dalgleish R. Characterization of the human secreted phosphoprotein 24 gene (SPP2) and comparison of the protein sequence in nine species. Matrix Biol. 2004 Feb;22(8):641-51. doi: 10.1016/j.matbio.2003.12.001. PMID: 15062857 (Published in my Maiden Name of Bennett).

After discovering how much I enjoyed teaching during my PhD, I trained through a graduate trainee programme and gained QTS as a secondary science teacher. Since then I have taught science in both state and independent schools from Year 7 to A-Level, becoming a specialist biology teacher and eventually teaching predominantly GCSE and A-Level.  In recent years, I have taught in the conservation education sector and I have also gained more experience working with SEN students. 

I have developed interests in environmental education, nature connection and wellness and I believe that these subjects all contribute to our deeper understanding of biology and our interdependence with the world around us. I am offering tutoring services to help students improve their understanding of biology, their revision skills and their exam technique.
